Scott Houston
- Hi, I am Scott Houston an without finding Coach Morell I would not be
where I am today!
I started in the 8th grade and only jumped 8'6. Then I moved up to North
Carolina and started working with Coach. My freshman year outdoors I
jumped 13'1 and placed 6th in the state meet.
I went to summer camp and learned alot of things that I could do on my
own
as well as met a bunch of really cool people! And my sophomore year I
jumped 14 indoors to set the leading mark and 14'8 outdoors to set the
leading mark as well. I was injured a week before indoor states and
injured just a few weeks after I jumped 14'8. All things taken into
account, it wasn't a bad year.
Over the summer I got a chance to work the camps and help out all the
kids
that I enjoy hanging out with and it really helped me jumping wise got
me
jumping very well technically where I wanted to be for my junior year.
My
year was very successful in its sense, breaking both the indoor state
record
and the outdoor state record and jumping a pr of 15'11. Being the second
best pole vaulter ever in North Carolina history. But there was still a
lot
missing. So we hit it hard again over the summer and came back finally
going
back to a 7 stride approach and reached an applaudable height for my
efforts
of 16'10.75 at the Reno Pole Vault Summit! This jump put me as number 2
in the nation and the best pole vaulter ever in North Carolina state
history
and among the top ever on the east coast.
This season so far has been amazing, finally jumping well and
consistently
over 16'6. I broke my indoor state meet record by 15 inches and I am
very
close to being the first highschooler to jump 17 feet in North Carolina.
Jumping high and being ranked is not what its about though, and Coach
Morell has kept my sites on having fun and that's truly how I have
jumped high. He supports me greatly and is a really great friend and a
good guy! He is experienced having jumped 17 feet himself and having
traveled around the
country and to Canada speaking with the best of the best from all of
over
the world. He truly has not only set out to help everyone, but set out
to
gain as much knowledge in to jumping the most efficient way possible.
He and I have great goals for me and jumping in the future, but the main
one
is to have fun and love what we are doing and that's what polevaulting
is
about to me.
Addison Johnson - I
started vaulting in the 10th grade which was the first year of our new
high school. We did not have a coach that knew anything about pole
vaulting so my friend and I had to teach ourselves from watching videos
on the internet. My personal best that year was was 8' 6".
My 11th grade year someone told me
about Vaulthouse.com and Coach Morell. I started attending Coach
Morell's Sunday clinics in January (It started snowing during my first
visit) and I was still only jumping around 8' 6" to 9'. I worked with
Coach Morell almost every weekend he held his clinics. When the season
started I qualified for regionals during our second track meet with a
height of 11' 6".
As the season was coming to and end
and it was time for the regional championship, I entered the meet seated
in 5th position. They only take the top 4 from each region to the State
meet, therefore my goal was to just move up at least one position.
However, when the regionals were over I was the Mid-East Regional
Champion with a height of 13'. I own this all to Coach Morell and
Vaulthouse.com.
